Alia Shawkat

Shawkat played Hannah's character on State of Grace from 2001 to 2004. In the role of Maeby Funke, Shawkat was a regular cast member of Arrested Development for the entire season from 2003 until the year 2019. The series received nearly universally positive reviews, with Shawkat's performance often receiving praise. The pop-culture commentator Brian M. Palmer remarked that she was "one of the brightest stars on a show only populated by bright lights," as well as Scott Weinberg of eFilmCritic described her as "one funny young lady." In an interview with The A.V. Club in 2010 Shawkat said that a number of her "formative moments" as an actress occurred in the Arrested Development set: " [Show creator] Mitch Hurwitz was like a father figure to me. In the sense that it was wonderful to be with the actors] because I think my understanding of comedy was able grow really well during that period of time. Shawkat was in Har Mar Superstar's 2009 video for "Tall Boy,"" which included Eva Mendes, Eric Wareheim and many others. In October 2009 it was announced that Shawkat, Har Mar, and Whip It co-star Elliot Page would produce and create a show for HBO called Stitch N' Bitch.
